Everester Taka Tamut Appointed Director of National Adventure Foundation, Arunachal Chapter

ITANAGAR, Oct 31: Renowned mountaineer and Everester Taka Tamut has been nominated as the Director of the Arunachal Pradesh Chapter of the National Adventure Foundation (NAF) — a prestigious appointment under the chairmanship of General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.), the 25th Governor of Mizoram, and the presidency of Lt Gen Raman Dhawan, AVSM, VSM, ADC (Retd.).

Tamut’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Arunachal Pradesh, reflecting both his extraordinary contributions to Indian adventure sports and the growing prominence of the state in the national adventure landscape.

Recognized Mountaineer and National Awardee

A recipient of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, Taka Tamut is celebrated for his historic ascent of Mount Everest in 2018 without Sherpa assistance—a feat that underscores his exceptional endurance and self-reliance. Beyond summiting the world’s highest peak, he has also successfully scaled several other Himalayan summits, earning widespread acclaim for his technical skill and determination.

Tamut’s commitment to service and safety is equally noteworthy. He played a vital role in high-profile rescue operations, including the retrieval mission during the AN-32 aircraft crash in Arunachal Pradesh, which earned him recognition from both civilian and defense institutions.

Strengthening Adventure Sports in the Northeast

The National Adventure Foundation, guided by the leadership of General (Dr) V.K. Singh and Lt Gen Raman Dhawan, has been instrumental in promoting youth participation in adventure and outdoor leadership programs across India. With Tamut now at the helm of the Arunachal Pradesh Chapter, the Foundation aims to amplify grassroots engagement, particularly encouraging tribal and rural youth to take part in mountaineering, trekking, and allied adventure disciplines.

A Vision for Youth and the State

Taka Tamut’s appointment is seen as an affirmation of his lifelong dedication to adventure and a recognition of his contributions that have brought national visibility to Arunachal Pradesh. His leadership is expected to inspire a new generation of adventurers, foster training and safety standards, and position the state as a hub for high-altitude exploration and adventure tourism.

“This nomination is not just a personal milestone but a commitment to nurture young talent and showcase Arunachal’s immense potential in adventure sports,” Tamut stated following the announcement.

With his proven record of courage, discipline, and community service, Taka Tamut’s new role is poised to elevate Arunachal Pradesh’s status within India’s growing adventure ecosystem and reinforce the National Adventure Foundation’s mission of building a nation of skilled, resilient, and inspired adventurers.
