ITANAGAR, May 7: Day after the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), led by President Meje Taku, visited the family of whistle-blower Late Gyamar Padang on his death anniversary and assured support for a “Statue of Honour,” the Arunachal Pradesh Government on Wednesday announced that it will officially erect a memorial statue in his memory.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu in his social media stated that the statue would honour the late whistleblower’s courage and public-spirited contribution toward exposing loopholes in the recruitment system and promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance.
“I met his family members and conveyed my heartfelt respect and condolences. The memorial will stand as a lasting tribute to his life and as an inspiration for future generations to uphold honesty, responsibility, and public service,” the Chief Minister stated.

Responding to Government’s assurance, President AAPSI- Meje Taku stated “ I warmly welcome the announcement by Hon’ble Chief Minister regarding the erection of a statue_of_Honesty in memory of Late Gyamar_Padang. This gesture is a profound recognition of his public-spirited contribution to society and governance.
Late Shri Gyamar Padang, recipient of the State Gold Medal (posthumously), courageously drew attention to gaps in the recruitment system and worked towards strengthening transparency, accountability, and efficiency in our institutions. His sacrifice and integrity will forever inspire the youth of Arunachal Pradesh to uphold honesty, responsibility, and public service.
On behalf of AAPSU, I extend heartfelt respect to his family and assure that his legacy will continue to guide our collective efforts for a just and accountable society. The memorial will stand not only as a tribute to his life but also as a beacon for future generations.
The government’s announcement comes amid growing public recognition of Gyamar Padang’s legacy, with many viewing the decision as a significant step towards honouring truth, sacrifice, and the fight for clean governance in Arunachal Pradesh.
Late Gyamar Padang, who was posthumously conferred the State Gold Medal, is remembered across the state for his stand on issues concerning fairness and integrity in public institutions.
