RGU Successfully Organizes Orientation Program on NEP-2020, Academic Bank of Credits

RONO HILL, June 30: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), a Central University, recently conducted a one-day orientation program focused on the operationalization of NEP-2020 (Syllabi & Course Structures) and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). The event brought together representatives from various Institutes/Colleges affiliated with RGU, along with sister institutes, both in-person and virtually. The program aimed to provide an overview of NEP-2020 implementation and the concept of the Academic Bank of Credits.

During the inaugural session, Dr. NT Rikam, Registrar of RGU, delivered a welcome address and announced that the university had approved the NEP-2020 syllabi and course structure during the 43rd Academic Council meeting. Prof. Kuldeep Krishan Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Himalayan University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, commended Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of RGU, for organizing the orientation program. He emphasized the importance of financial support from the government to ensure the successful implementation of NEP-2020.

Prof. Saket Kushwaha highlighted the significance of NEP-2020 and informed the participants that RGU had adopted the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to undergraduate courses. Ms. Ira Singhal, IAS, Special Secretary (Education) of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, joined the program virtually and discussed the objectives of NEP-2020, including enhancing students’ marketability for better employment opportunities. She also mentioned the concept of “Professor of Practice” and the benefits of the new degree nomenclature.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. David Partin Pertin, Joint Registrar (Academic & Conference) of RGU and Nodal Officer of the Orientation Program Organizing Committee. Dr. Pertin expressed his gratitude and facilitated the moderation of the orientation program.

The technical session focused on NEP-2020 implementation and provided insights into the Internship and Apprenticeship program of the First Year Degree College (FYDC). Prof. Nani Bath, Director of the Career Development Center (CDC) at RGU, chaired the session, which featured presentations from various resource persons.

Dr. Upamanyu Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Coordinator of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) & National Academic Depository (NAD) Cell at RGU, shared updates on the university’s curriculum in line with NEP-2020. He also discussed the registration process for students in the ABC portal to obtain their ABC ID. Dr. Das elaborated on the structure of degree programs, highlighting the new components introduced as per NEP-2020.

Prof. Hui Tag, Coordinator of Internship & Apprenticeship at RGU, explained the distinction between internships and apprenticeships and emphasized their significance. He urged all RGU-affiliated colleges to establish dedicated cells and appoint coordinators for internships and apprenticeships.

Dr. Pakngu Lombi, Deputy Director (Technical) of the AP State Council for Science and Technology, shared guidelines on how students can pursue internships at the council. Dr. Lakhinath Saikia, Acting Head of the Chemistry Department and Sub-Committee Member for NEP implementation (SWAYAM & MOOCs), discussed the role of SWAYAM in facilitating the implementation of NEP-2020.

The orientation program included an open discussion session where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive appropriate answers from the resource persons.
