PASIGHAT, 1 JUNE: Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS) reported a case of child abuse in Pasighat on Saturday. The main abuser, Nanung Sitang is identified as a government employee. Kani Nada Maling APWWS president vehemently said that the government should take stringent action against such employees as per the laid-down rules.
Kani said that she has spoken to the Deputy Director of ICDS and the Centre Administrator of the One Stop Centre, where the first information was received. She added that swift action was taken by the Police, East Siang District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Pasighat, and One Stop Centre to the Child’s help. The Chairperson of CWC, Pasighat, informed that the Child Welfare Committee, immediately provided medical assistance, shelter and counselling to the minor.
Seeing the recurrence of child abuse Nima Nada Maling APWWS president asserted that, we as a mother organization, are extremely concerned about the situation. She added that such cases must be dealt with an iron hand so that nobody will dare to commit such heinous acts. Rigorous campaigns need to be created among the public about child laws. Therefore, we appeal to the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to carry out campaigns against child rights violations.
Further, she said that since it is an explicit case of child abuse, the police must submit the charge sheet so that stringent punishment is awarded to the accused. In this regard, we appeal to the police to expedite the investigation.
Nima also appealed to the citizens to be vigilant. If anyone knows about such child abuse cases, they should dial the childline toll-free number 1098 without any hesitation. The informer’s name shall be kept confidential, she added.
