SCCZ Observes World Photography Day with Workshop and Media Literacy Campaign at Boasimla

BOASIMLA, Aug 19: The Department of Mass Communication, Saint Claret College (Autonomous), Ziro (SCCZ) marked World Photography Day 2025 by conducting a Photography Workshop and Media Literacy Campaign at Government Higher Secondary School, Boasimla, Kamle district, on Tuesday. The event, organized under the banner of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC)—an initiative of the Ministry of Education—aimed to foster creativity, media literacy, and community engagement.

A total of 36 students from Government Higher Secondary School, Boasimla, actively participated in the program.

The outreach featured two technical sessions. The first, a Media Literacy Campaign on the theme “Ethics in Information Communication Technology (ICT),” was led by Ms. Geeta Zirdo, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, SCCZ. She urged students to be cautious in consuming information circulated on social media and emphasized verifying facts before sharing content online.

The second session on the Basics of Photography was conducted by Mr. Donye Natung, Assistant Professor, SCCZ. He introduced participants to photography techniques, creative approaches, and practical skills in visual storytelling.

The Media Literacy Campaign engaged students in discussions on digital ethics, responsible ICT use, safe social media practices, and combating misinformation, while the Photography Workshop provided hands-on learning about the technical and artistic aspects of photography.

Adding to the observance, 22 students of the department also took part in a ‘Heritage Walk’ session, organized by the Lower Subansiri Photography Club (LSPC) in collaboration with SCCZ’s Mass Communication Department.
