ITANAGAR, July 8: The Capital Police have acknowledged that Human Rights Activists and Anti-Dam Advocate Ebo Mili, along with Dugge Apang, were apprehended on the morning of 08 July 2024. This action was taken as a proactive measure to maintain public order and safety ahead of the forthcoming public meeting involving the Chief Minister and Union Ministers of Power and Urban Affairs, scheduled for 09 July 2024.
Superintendent of Police-ICR, Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS), in its press statement informed that,
Incident Overview:
On 07 July 2024, at approximately 1800 hours, reliable sources reported that Mr. Ebo Mili, was likely to disrupt the forthcoming public meeting. Sources indicated that Mr. Mili intended to create a public order issue during the event. Additionally, credible information suggested that members of the state-based anti-dam organization, such as the Siang Indigenous Farmers’ Forum, were planning to join him in this endeavor.
Apprehension and Binding Down Procedure:
In light of the potential threat to public order, authorities took immediate action. On 08 July 2024, at 0850 hours, Mr. Ebo Mili was apprehended for questioning. Following similar intelligence, Mr. Dugge Apang and Convenor of the Siang Indigenous Farmers’ Forum, was telephonically reached and apprehended at Niti Vihar Police Station at 1200 hours on the same day.
To prevent any untoward incidents, a prayer was submitted to the Executive Magistrate, Itanagar, to bind down the aforementioned individuals under Section 128 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The prayer was granted, and the individuals were then bound down.
SP, further stated No arrests were made in connection with this preventive action. Both Mr. Ebo Mili and Mr. Dugge Apang have been released after completing the necessary legal formalities
