Itanagar WPS Cracks Child Sexual Assault Case; Accused Arrested in Swift Police Collaboration

ITANAGAR, Sep 6:  The Itanagar Women Police Station (WPS) recently apprehended an accused in a serious case of child sexual assault, highlighting the effectiveness of inter-state and inter-district police cooperation.

On 3rd September 2024, a written complaint was filed by a woman, Mrs. Xyz, reporting that her 10-year-old daughter, Miss A, had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man on 31st August. The crime came to light after the child complained of pelvic pain, and a medical examination confirmed the assault. The victim was reportedly lured by the perpetrator with the promise of chips before the crime was committed.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under ITA WPS Case No. 45/2024, under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 4 of the POCSO Act. Inspector Nich Rupa took charge of the investigation. Recognizing the severity of the case, a special investigation team was formed, supervised by the SP Capital, which included various officers and technical support from the District Detection Team.

Through careful investigation involving witness interviews, CCTV footage analysis, and other technical methods, the accused was identified. The investigation revealed that the accused, a labourer in Naharlagun, had fled after committing the crime. Police intelligence led to a raid on his residence in Lakhimpur on 5th September. However, he had already left for Yomcha to work at a construction site. The police, in coordination with West Siang authorities, tracked down and arrested him.

This swift and coordinated operation demonstrates the commitment of the Arunachal Pradesh Police to protecting vulnerable citizens and ensuring justice. The SP Capital praised the officers’ dedication and stressed the importance of inter-jurisdictional cooperation in achieving justice for victims. The arrest is a key step in the ongoing investigation, which aims to secure a strong case against the accused.
