Naharlagun, Jan 7: In a significant operation aimed at curbing the drug menace, Naharlagun Police apprehended an interstate drug peddler and seized 1,111.8 grams of cannabis from his possession. The accused, identified as Stephen Gungte (25), a resident of G-Sector, Naharlagun, was reportedly bringing cannabis from Assam and distributing it among local youths in the Capital ICR.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a raid was meticulously planned under the direction of SP Naharlagun Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS. The operation was executed by a team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, OC PS Naharlagun, along with SI Vivek Linggi, SI K Mosin, SI B Lendo, Ct. N Hai, L/Ct. D Weyo, Ct. B Mutkong, and Ct. O Pertin, under the supervision of SDPO Naharlagun Shri Rishi Longdo.
The team reached the suspect’s residence in G-Sector and found him outside his house. The premises were secured, and the Executive Magistrate, EAC Naharlagun Shri Khoda Bath, was summoned to oversee the search operation.
During the search, 56.8 grams of cannabis were recovered from a black handbag carried by the accused. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered an additional 1,055 grams of cannabis packed in 81 pouches, along with 250 empty plastic pouches suspected to be used for distribution.
The total 1,111.8 grams of cannabis were seized and sealed in compliance with the NDPS Act in the presence of the magistrate and witnesses. The accused was taken into custody, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Legal proceedings are underway.
