ITANAGAR, OCT 9: In a significant breakthrough, the Capital Police have arrested a 37-year-old individual, a native of Village Nuna Camp, Dirang, West Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh, in connection with a molestation case involving a 14-year-old girl. The case was reported at the Women’s Police Station, Itanagar.
The incident, which occurred on 07/09/2024, was initially reported by the brother of the minor victim. According to the report, the victim was on her way to Ganga Village Higher Secondary School when the accused, under the pretext of offering her a lift on his TVS Jupiter scooter (registration no. AS-07L-6042), molested her by touching her private parts. Demonstrating courage, the victim managed to escape by jumping off the moving vehicle. The same individual later followed her to her rented apartment in Chandranagar, Itanagar, and was seen loitering around the premises on multiple occasions.
The police acted swiftly in identifying and arresting the suspect. Further investigation revealed that the accused had similarly targeted multiple other school and college girl children residing in Itanagar. The investigation, led by the Women Police Station, Itanagar, under the leadership of Inspector Rina Sonam (OC WPS Itanagar) and Inspector Nich Rupa (Investigating Officer), uncovered seven additional victims through outreach efforts under the Police Ajin initiative. This brings the total number of victims to eight—four from Ganga Village Higher Secondary School and four from Don Bosco College, Itanagar.
The accused has been arrested and interrogated, during which he confessed to committing the offenses. He is presently in judicial custody.
Superintendent of Police (Capital) lauded the dedication and efforts of the investigation team in not only causing the arrest of the unknown serial molester but also for their efforts in identifying several other victims. The SP further urged the media to widely publicize the case, so any additional victims, if present, can come forward and report similar incidents. The police assure the public that the identity of all victims will be kept strictly confidential. Anyone with information or similar experiences is encouraged to report to the Women Police Station, Itanagar.
