Minor Rescued in Joint Operation by Tinsukia Police & Women Police Station, Itanagar

ITANAGAR, Jan 3: In a successful joint operation, Tinsukia Police (Assam)and Women Police Station (WPS) Itanagar rescued a minor girl linked to a trafficking case registered under Tinsukia Police Station Case No. 472/24. The case, filed under sections 61(2), 140(3), and 143(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), highlights the urgent need for vigilance against child trafficking.

The operation began when a team from Tinsukia Police Station, led by SI (P) Riaz Ali and L/SI (P) Niharika Sonuwal, arrived at WPS Itanagar requesting assistance. Responding promptly, WPS Itanagar formed a rescue team under Inspector Nich Rupa, comprising L/Ct T. Manju, L/Ct Happy Singh, and Ct Arun Singh. Acting on information, the team proceeded to Lobby, Itanagar, where they successfully rescued the minor, identified as Miss Abc, from the residence of Smti Chello Aaw. Following her rescue, Miss Abc underwent a medical examination at a nearby hospital, where her health was confirmed to be stable.

The case was of 26 December 2024, when two minors, Miss Abc and her cousin, Miss Xyz, were reportedly intercepted by their aunt, Smti Sunita Bumis, while returning from school. The aunt allegedly took the children to Banderdewa to buy them new clothes before separating them. Miss Xyz was reportedly handed over to an unknown individual, while Miss Abc was taken to Itanagar and sold for ₹2,00,000.

Efforts are underway to locate Miss Xyz and apprehend all individuals involved in the trafficking network. Authorities have vowed to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The Superintendent of Police, Capital Police, Rohit Rajbir Singh commended the swift actions of the rescue team and called on residents of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) to refrain from employing minors as domestic help. He emphasized that such practices are illegal and punishable under the law. He further advised residents to conduct proper police verification before hiring domestic workers to prevent instances of fraud and exploitation.
