AACWA Raises Concern Over Corruption in Education Department, Government Issues Strict Advisory

ITANAGAR, Mar 28:  The All-Arunachal Contractor’s Welfare Association (AACWA) has sounded the alarm over alleged corrupt practices within the Education Department, where certain executing agencies and officials are reportedly demanding 2.5% to 5% upfront payments from contractors for infrastructure projects. In supply-related works, some officers are allegedly seeking 10-20% commissions, raising concerns about the compromise in quality and transparency of government-funded educational initiatives, claimed AACWA.

In its press statement, AACWA highlighted that such practices could undermine the quality of school infrastructure, affecting students and the education system. The association urged the authorities to intervene, emphasizing that schools should remain sacred spaces for learning, free from corruption.

In response, the Education Department has issued a strong advisory, strictly instructing all agencies, officers, and officials to immediately desist from such activities. Under Secretary (Education), Khumkon Mossang, clarified that the department has not authorized any individual or agency to demand financial incentives or additional payments from contractors.

The department further urged contractors and firms working on educational projects to adhere to the terms of their contracts and report any misconduct for appropriate investigation and legal action. The advisory warned that any violations would be met with strict consequences under the law.
