NIRJULI, May 3: A breakthrough has been achieved in a series of highway robberies along NH-415 near Karsingsa, as Banderdewa Police successfully busted a gang of habitual offenders and apprehended four accused individuals involved in multiple cases of armed robbery.
In a press statement, SP Naharlagun stated ‘since January last, several alarming incidents were reported wherein unidentified miscreants on two-wheelers targeted victims traveling along the highway. The robbers, posing as authorities conducting ILP and substance checks, allegedly threatened victims with daggers and forcefully snatched their belongings, including cash.
Based on FIRs received, Banderdewa Police registered two separate cases under the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) C/No. 06/25 u/s 309(4)/3(5) and C/No. 08/25 u/s 309(4)/3(5).
Responding to public concern, SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo (IPS) formed a dedicated investigation team, comprising SI Koj Tada, HC Tade Bomdom, HC Chera Acha, and Ct Rinchin Tsering, under the close supervision of SDPO Naharlagun Shri Longdo and Inspector Kipa Hamak, OC of Banderdewa Police Station.

The team conducted a focused investigation by collecting CCTV footage, eyewitness testimonies, and conducting field surveillance. After a series of coordinated efforts, the team intercepted two suspects on May 1, 2025, at Karsingsa while they were allegedly attempting another robbery. One of the suspects managed to flee, but the other Patey Bagang (19), resident of Ganga, Itanagar was apprehended.
During interrogation, Patey Bagang confessed and revealed the identities of his three associates. The police quickly carried out raids across various locations in the Itanagar Capital Region and apprehended Tadar Rar (24), resident of 6 Kilo, Itanagar, Ngurang Tako (23), resident of Kimin and Tabia Kapa (27), resident of Chandan Nagar, Itanagar.
Police confirmed that all four arrested individuals are repeat offenders, with multiple cases of robbery and theft already registered against them at different police stations across ICR.
SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo commended the investigating officers for their dedication and swift action in cracking the case and restoring public confidence.
“This successful operation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring safety on the highways and holding repeat offenders accountable,” said SP Gambo.
All accused are currently in police custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
