NAHARLAGUN, May 8 : In a significant crackdown on narcotics, police teams from Naharlagun and Banderdewa Police Stations apprehended five drug peddlers and seized a total of 140.15 grams of suspected heroin along with two vehicles used in drug trafficking on 07 May 2025.
First Operation: Raid in Prem Nagar
Acting on intelligence inputs, a team from Naharlagun Police Station led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev (OC PS Naharlagun), along with SI Sunny Hodong, SI Vivek Linggi, and other personnel, conducted a raid in the Prem Nagar area. They apprehended Md. Sariful Islam (36) of Bihpuria, Assam, with 37 vials of suspected heroin weighing 48.7 grams.

Based on his disclosure, the team swiftly intercepted two accomplices — Md. Shaik Farid (24) of Lakhimpur and Md. Ashraful Islam (23) of Laluk, Assam — at Kankarnallah after a brief chase and confrontation. They were found in possession of an additional 24 grams of suspected heroin concealed in two soap cases, and a Bajaj motorcycle (AS-07Z-6671) used in transportation was seized.
A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station under Case No. 62/2025 U/S 21(b)/29 NDPS Act.

Second Operation: Banderdewa Check Gate Interception
In another operation the same day, based on credible input, a special team from Banderdewa Police Station, comprising SI SK Singh, SI Sunny Salong, and other personnel including a section from 138 Bn CRPF, intercepted a Maruti SX4 (AS26-1427) at Banderdewa Check Gate.
Two individuals — Miss Kirry Riba (23) of Nirjuli and Shri Techi Maj (27) of Lekhi — were apprehended. Upon search in the presence of independent witnesses and as per legal procedures, 66.75 grams of suspected heroin (in 10 vials) were recovered from Miss Riba’s possession. The vehicle was also seized.
A case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station under Case No. 41/2025 U/S 21(b) NDPS Act R/W Sec 3(5) BNS.

SP Naharlagun, Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, who supervised both operations along with SDPO Shri Rishi Longdo, praised the police teams for their swift and effective action. He reiterated the ICR Police’s unwavering commitment to curb drug trafficking and safeguard the youth from the menace of narcotics.
