Itanagar, Aug 20: Justice Prasanta Kumar Deka (Retd.) was sworn in as the Chairperson of the Lokayukta, Arunachal Pradesh, in an impressive ceremony held at the Vivekananda Hall of Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, on Wednesday. Alongside him, Er. Sang Phuntsok, IAS (Retd.), was sworn in as a member of the institution.

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General K.T. Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd.), administered the oath of office to the Chairperson and the member. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Cabinet Ministers, senior officials and dignitaries. State Chief Secretary Manish Gupta conducted the proceedings.
Following the oath-taking, Justice Deka called on the Governor. During their interaction, the Governor underscored the importance of the Lokayukta as a pillar of democratic governance. “The Lokayukta is not merely a statutory body, but a moral guardian entrusted with the responsibility of upholding integrity in public life,” he said.

He advised the Chairperson to take a proactive role in promoting transparency, ensuring accountability, and combating corruption. Stressing that a corruption-free system is the foundation of people’s trust in governance, the Governor remarked that institutions like the Lokayukta are vital in achieving this goal.

The Governor also expressed his anticipation of receiving the Lokayukta’s annual report, noting that it would serve as a mirror to the functioning of public institutions while guiding the State in strengthening mechanisms of accountability and good governance.
