State Commission for Women Celebrates Solung Festival at Pasighat; Visits Model Clean Village Siluk

PASIGHAT, Sept 3: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), Itanagar joyfully celebrated the Solung Festival, one of the most significant festivals of the Adi community, at Pasighat on the gracious invitation of its Chairperson, Smt. Yalem Taga Burang on Monday last.

“With an aim to encourage and motivate every citizen, the Commission participated in the festival with a message to take a role in preserving and promoting local festivals . Such cultural celebrations are not only a source of identity and pride but also a bridge connecting the younger generation with their ancestral values and traditions.”

On this auspicious occasion, traditional rituals were performed and prayers were offered to Donyi Polo, Kine-Naane, Doying-Bote, and Dadii-Bote—the revered deities believed to be the eternal guardians of the Adi faith and culture. The rituals symbolized the community’s deep reverence for nature, harvest, and ancestral traditions, seeking blessings for prosperity, peace, and good health for all.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Smt. Yalem Taga Burang highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage while also promoting values of tradition, environmental protection, and social progress. She also informed that, during Solung the womenfolk take a leading role in offering prayers to Kine-Naane, the goddess of crops and prosperity, seeking her divine blessings for a bumper harvest and the well-being of every household.

As part of the celebration, the Commission visited Siluk Village, located in East Siang district, which has emerged as a shining example of transformation through collective community effort. Once facing challenges of poor sanitation and scattered garbage, the village has remarkably reinvented itself through active participation of its residents. Today, Siluk is proudly recognized as the “Cleanest Village” of Arunachal Pradesh, having received the prestigious Chief Minister’s Award for Cleanliness three times.

The visit underscored the Commission’s commitment to promoting awareness on cleanliness, safeguarding  environment, and civic responsibility. Siluk’s success story serves as a reminder that sustainable development begins at the grassroots level, with collective determination and community-led action.

The celebration concluded with cultural performances, community feasting, and exchange of greetings, reflecting the vibrant essence of the Festival.
