BHALUKPONG, Oct 16: In a significant drug bust, Bhalukpong police apprehended a man and seized 150 kilograms of cannabis during a routine vehicle inspection at the Bhalukpong Police Check Gate on Monday morning at approximately 07:30 hours.

The cannabis, valued at over ₹4 lakhs, was packed in 30 white plastic bags and found in a Maruti Swift Dzire (Registration No: AS-01-FX-6744) driven by Thulunga Wary, a resident of Sibiary village, Sonitpur district, Assam. Initial investigations indicate that the drugs were sourced from Kalaktang, located in West Kameng district, and were being transported to Assam.

Thulunga Wary was taken into custody and charged under Case No. 12/24 at the Bhalukpong Police Station under Section 20(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The operation was spearheaded by Inspector Thumgon Tali, Officer-in-Charge of Bhalukpong Police Station, with the assistance of Assistant Sub-Inspector Thutan Tsering and a team of officers comprising Head Constables Thutan Tashi, Kamshyam Mamai, Gollo Desisow, and Bodo Yamchodu, along with Constables Daki Sagro, Langha Peter, Tosa Natung, and Honwang Wangsu. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Pawan Kumar Yadav, IPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhalukpong, and the overall supervision of Sudhanshu Dhama, IPS, Superintendent of Police, West Kameng District.

This marks the third drug-related arrest in the past month for the Bhalukpong police, part of their ongoing efforts under the “Operation Dawn Initiatives for War Against Drugs.” Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region.

The police have ramped up their vigilance in the area, and investigations are ongoing to identify further links in the drug supply chain.
