Banderdewa, Jan 16: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Banderdewa Police successfully apprehended a suspected drug peddler following a dramatic high-speed chase on Wednesday. The operation was executed based on reliable intelligence regarding ongoing drug trafficking activities in the region.
Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, led the operation by forming a special team comprising Sub-Inspector Koj Tada, Constables T. Bomdom, and R. Tsering. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Shri Rishi Longdo, SDPO Naharlagun.
The suspect, identified as Nur Jamal (27), a resident of Alisingia, Uriyumguri, in Sonitpur, Assam, attempted to flee when police intervened. He sped away on a Bajaj Avenger motorcycle (registration number AR01H7457), but the determined police team chased and intercepted the vehicle at Jullang, successfully apprehending the suspect.
A thorough search of the suspect led to the recovery of 10 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 12.70 grams, valued at around ₹30,000. Following the recovery, a case was registered under Banderdewa PS C/No. 04/2025 U/S 21(b) of the NDPS Act.
Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, praised the swift action of the police team and reiterated the department’s commitment to tackling the growing drug menace under “Operation Dawn 2.0.” He emphasized that the police force remains determined to curb drug-related activities in the region and ensure public safety.
