NAMSAI, Jan 31: In a major operation against illegal poppy cultivation, Namsai District Police have arrested two individuals for their involvement in illegal poppy farming. The arrests were made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reflecting the authorities’ strict stance on such activities.
The arrested individuals are Vijay Ranjan Chakma @ Bijoy Chakma (30 years), a resident of Bijoypur Village, and Subha Ranjan Chakma (39 years) a resident of Modakka Nala, Diyun, Changlang District. The case has been registered under Chonglham Police station Case No. 01/25 U/S 18(C) NDPS Act, which imposes severe penalties for offenses related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Namsai District Police have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards illegal poppy cultivation, warning that offenders will face strict legal action, including arrest, prosecution, and punishment under the NDPS Act. Illegal poppy cultivation is a serious crime that not only violates the law but also contributes to drug addiction, crime, and societal harm.
The police have issued a clear warning to those involved in such activities, emphasizing that there will be no leniency for offenders. They have also urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities related to drug cultivation to help create a drug-free society.
