ITANAGAR, Mar 3: The Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has reaffirmed its determination to continue its democratic movement, accusing the state government of failing to address their demands to repeal the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA) 1978.
Speaking at a press conference in the state capital, ACF Secretary General James Techi Tara stated that their movement is directed solely at the government and not against any religious group. They urged other religious communities to channel their concerns to the authorities rather than targeting the forum.
ACF accused the government of creating divisions among tribal communities by pushing for the implementation of an act they claim has no legal validity. Citing court judgments, ACF asserted that there Order only reads that government should frame the rule, and there is nothing about implementation of the said Act. Moreover, the case has been dismissed already, so there is no legal mandate for the enforcement of APFRA-1978 ,stated Secretary General ACF.
State government is creating division amongst the peace loving people , by dividing people on religious groups and curtailing fundamental rights, he added.
The forum announced that the first phase of their democratic movement will conclude on March 6, following which they will launch the second phase. ACF stated that their agitation will continue until the government provides a clear and concrete solution to their concerns.
