APFRA-1978: Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) urges for peace & harmony

ITANAGAR,Mar 6:  The Arunachal Indigenous Tribes’ Forum (AITF), an umbrella organization representing all apex Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) of Indigenous Tribes in Arunachal Pradesh, has expressed deep concern over the recent developments surrounding the Hon’ble High Court’s verdict on framing rules under Section 8 of the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1978.

The ruling, which directs the state government to frame rules within six months, has sparked reactions from various groups, including the Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) and the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP). The ACF has launched hunger strikes and dharnas, while the IFCSAP has organized rallies in certain districts, raising fears of potential disruptions to peace and stability in the state.

In a statement, the AITF expressed its apprehension that such protests and counter-movements could disturb the law and order situation, hindering the developmental progress of Arunachal Pradesh. The forum has urged all stakeholders, including political leaders, ACF, and IFCSAP, to refrain from making provocative statements on social media, print, and electronic platforms that could escalate tensions.

The AITF has called for a cooperative approach in framing the rules under Section 8 of the Act and has urged the government to engage in discussions with all concerned parties. Furthermore, the organization has appealed to the government to circulate the Draft Rules for public feedback to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.

In an effort to facilitate meaningful dialogue, the AITF is considering the formation of a Consultative Committee to review the Draft Rules framed by the state government. The proposed committee would conduct a thorough analysis and present its recommendations through the Joint Consultative Forum (JCF), allowing for broader consultations among community-based organizations.

The AITF reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state while ensuring that the rights and concerns of all communities are addressed through constructive discussions, stated a release.
