NAMSAI, March 27: A two-day awareness workshop on Skills and Design Development for artisans from handicraft clusters of Arunachal Pradesh successfully concluded on March 26 at Hotel Namlau, Namsai. The event was organized by the Department of Industry, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The workshop aimed to empower artisans, nurture skills, and foster innovation by equipping artisans and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with financial acumen, branding, and marketing strategies to expand their reach and maximize their potential. More than 200 local craft persons, weavers, and SHG members participated in the event.
Distinguished guests including MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Deputy Commissioner CR Kampa, and Assistant Director of Textiles and Handicrafts (ADTH) Namsai, Maglek Pertin, attended the workshop.
During the technical session, Shri Rohit Shah, Consultant, Department of Industry, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, provided insights into various government schemes such as PM Vishwakarma, PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), and PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), along with guidance on the bank loan process.

Additionally, Jayanti Mukherjee, Associate Professor & Chairperson (F&A) NIFT, along with her team, introduced artisans to innovative ideas in craft and weaving design, further enhancing their skills.
The event, conducted under the Comprehensive Handicrafts Clusters Development Scheme (CHCDS) of Arunachal Pradesh, marked a significant step towards promoting sustainable development and modernization in the state’s handicraft sector.
