ITANAGAR, June 26: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress has vehemently condemned the BJP – Arunachal’s , condemning them for disrespecting the India’s first female Prime Minister, widely revered as the Iron Lady of Indian politics. The Youth Congress described the effigy burning as a deplorable act that undermines the legacy of a leader who played a significant role in the nation’s history.
The BJP – Arunachal, in collaboration with the ABVP – Arunachal Unit, observed June 25, 2024, as “Black Day” to commemorate the imposition of Emergency in India in 1975. However, their act of burning the effigy of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the event has sparked controversy and drawn strong condemnation.
In response, the Youth Congress urged BJP – Arunachal leaders, who often refer to themselves as “CHOWKIDARS,” to shift their focus towards addressing pressing contemporary issues. They highlighted concerns about what they perceive as an ongoing state of undeclared Emergency under the current leadership of Narendra Modi. Issues such as alleged misuse of investigative agencies like the ED and CBI, the suspension of opposition MPs, economic challenges including inflation and unemployment, and controversies surrounding electoral bonds and press freedom were all cited as evidence of authoritarian tendencies.
The Youth Congress underscored recent electoral outcomes as indicative of public dissatisfaction with such governance practices, attributing credit to the India Bloc, led by Shri Rahul Gandhi, for defending constitutional values amidst perceived threats.
