BANDERDEWA  Dec 16:  A young man sustained serious injuries today after being attacked by a wild elephant  in the forested area of Nowbangha Nalla, about 7 km from Banderdewa Police Station. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm when the victim, identified as Chukhu Obi (22), ventured into the forest to check on his Mithuns.

The elephant attacked suddenly, leaving Obi severely injured. Upon receiving reports of the incident, a swift response team led by Shri Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, and ASI KB Singh, accompanied by local residents, rushed to the scene.

The team successfully rescued the injured youth and transported him in a police vehicle to Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) for immediate treatment. Obi, a resident of Dobam Village in Banderdewa Circle and the son of the late Chukhu Taba, is currently under medical care.

The prompt intervention by the police and local community played a crucial role in ensuring Obi received urgent medical attention, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts in man-animal conflict scenarios.

Such incidents underscore the growing challenges of human-wildlife interactions in regions like Banderdewa Circle, where proximity to forested areas often puts residents at risk. Authorities have urged caution when entering forested zones and are considering measures to mitigate future conflicts.
