APSCW and Muskan Women Foundation Organize Legal Awareness Programme at Nyapin

NYAPIN, Jan 9: A one-day legal awareness programme focusing on “Women Empowerment, Girl Child Education, Legal Rights for Women, Substance Abuse, and HIV/AIDS” was held today at Nyapin in Kurung Kumey District. The event was organized by the Muskan Women Foundation in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW).

The programme witnessed the active participation of the APSCW team, led by Chairperson Kenjum Pakam, Vice Chairperson Nabam Yahi Tad, and Member Kago T Yasung. As the Chief Guest, Chairperson Pakam emphasized the importance of self-help groups in fostering economic independence among women and highlighted the need for promoting girl child education. She also encouraged women to avail of bank loans to improve their livelihoods and stressed the importance of marriage registration to secure legal rights.

Vice Chairperson Nabam Yahi Tad spoke about the legal provisions available for women and urged participants not to misuse these laws. She also discussed the role of social media in preserving cultural identity, language, and traditions, while emphasizing the economic empowerment of women. She cited the example of Smt. Babiya Miuw, whose promotion of Mismi cuisine demonstrated the potential for self-reliance and economic independence.

APSCW Member Kago T Yasung provided insights into the powers and functions of the Commission, underscoring its role in supporting and empowering women across the state.

Adding depth to the discussions, Mrs. Asia International and Councillor of the AP AIDS Control Society, Koj Baya Eshi, spoke about the pressing issues of substance abuse, alcoholism, and HIV/AIDS, urging the community to collectively address these challenges. ICDS Deputy Director Kago Maya Gyati elaborated on various government schemes designed for the welfare of women and children, encouraging participants to take full advantage of these opportunities.

Guest of Honour, Nyapin-II ZPM Tadar Tadey, commended the APSCW and Muskan Women Foundation for organizing such an impactful programme. He acknowledged its broader societal benefits, highlighting the potential of such initiatives to positively influence the entire community.

The President of Muskan Women Foundation, Ngurang Anung, also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to all participants and reaffirming the foundation’s commitment to empowering women and promoting awareness on critical social issues.

The event was attended by over 100 participants, including Mrs. Arunachal Final contestants, Gaon Burahs, Gaon Buris, ICDS officials, and members of the general public. It marked a significant step towards fostering awareness and empowerment among women and the community at large.
